Registrations for our regional events are now closed for the 2019-20 competition round.  

 

Throughout the season, teams will need access to the following materials:

• Computer or tablet with software to program the robot

How much does it cost to register?

The registration fee is usually £180, which includes competition entry and the Challenge Mission kit.  EESW can provide support for schools in Wales entering the LEGO League - we can offer school visits and training as well as funding the cost of entry.  

You will also need an EV3 robot, which costs around £250 to purchase.  We also have limited EV3 robots which we can loan to your school.  

All funding will be allocated to eligible schools only, on a first come, first served basis. Only one registration will be funded per school. Second teams may be eligible for a discount of 50% off the registration fee only. Any subsequent teams will be required to pay the full registration fee.

 

The Engineering Education Scheme Wales (EESW) are a partner for FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) in Wales. 

FLL is a global science and technology competition for teams of students, to encourage an interest in real world issues and develop key skills that are crucial for their future careers.  The students work together as a team and explore a given scientific topic and plan, program and test an autonomous robot to solve several missions.  

FLL is for young people aged nine to 16 years, working in teams of up to ten with a supporting mentor. Each year FLL releases a new challenge for the teams.   Teams have ten to twelve weeks during the autumn term to complete and test their entry before they compete in their chosen Regional Tournament in December/January.

Each year a new theme is set and teams work to develop a research project and program a LEGO robot to complete a series of relevant tasks.  Teams meet at the regional finals to celebrate their work and winners will go forward to the UK and Ireland final where a team to represent the UK will be selected for the International competition.  

How does it work?

• Form a team of up to ten pupils between the ages of 9 and 16, with two adult coaches
• Register your interest with EESW here and you will be sent a registration form - see below for information on costs and available grants.
• Download the challenge document (when it becomes available on 1st August)
• Coach your team through the challenge (EESW can provide support)
• Bring your students to our events in December/January (North and South Wales) to compete
